The best book I've read so far this year!

| I hadn't read a John Grisham novel in a long time, and I was so impressed with this one! Such a smartly written book. Lots of political intrigue. I love that the book could almost be ripped out of the headlines, with its chemical-dumping company in the Mississippi backwater causing a cancer cluster (sounds like a 60 Minutes story) and its super-rich Donald Trump-type CEO (plus skeleton-thin trophy wife) in Manhattan manipulating his company's stock price to make himself a billionaire. Also, the slimy behind-the-scenes characters buying politicians and, in this case, a judge. It's a riveting book, and you have to wonder how much of this shady business goes on in the real world. The only place the book faltered was at the end, with a contrived ending (out-of-the-blue personal tragedy). |
