This book can save you hundreds and thousands of dollars. Cathy has done the work for you and weeded through the bigillion choices of curriculum and chosen the best of the best for you to evaluate in light of your children's learning style and family goals. Check out the Spell to Write and Read curriculum that she recommends in this book. And yes, it even works for the Wiggliest of Willies (I have 5 boys) and it is tried and true with us!
I started my Wiggliest of Willy with Spell to Write and Read when he was five (almost 6.) At first he could only write one word from dictation before falling off the chair (he was exhausted and stressed out!!) I'd say, "Get back in the chair, Tom," then dictate another word. He could only handle 5 words at a time, which was fine with me. Update four years later: Tom the Wiggly is now 9 years old and would be in 3rd grade if he were in a public school. He finished this past year at 9.8 grade level on the Spelling Diagnostic, and tells me that spelling is one of his favorite subjects (along with history and science!)
