A QUESTION OF CONTEXT, NOT OF BELIEF
|
| A few folks here persist in bringing up the notion that books like this are read solely by those who already "believe". Clearly a fundamental point is being missed. Mr. Kaplan is not working from some perspective determined by anything as evanescent as belief. He is instead discussing and evaluating action and reaction the way it used to be evaluated -- as reality and in context. But outside the specific topics of this book is the larger demonstration of the importance of viewing the world as is, not simply as wished, and the efficacy realized in doing so. That so much of today's policy is transmitted to the broader public verbally -- and solely as a free-of-context monologue -- cripples public comprehension while simultaneously encouraging people to supplant critical thought with unexamined and often emotionally charged opinion. Hey folks, if belief is worth as much as many claim, be courageous and fair enough to test it. |
