| Wow. Kaplan pulls no punches in this hard-hitting critique of U.S. foreign policy under George W. Bush. From the fall of the Berlin Wall to the current day, Kaplan takes us on a journey of hubris and empire. While much of the material I already knew by simply reading a lot of political non-fiction, Kaplan does an absolutely wonderful job of weaving together the pieces of the puzzle; and shows that America must never again allow a small cabal to dictate American foreign policy. Fred Kaplan not only knows his history and politics - he knows how to write. I found myself completely taken with Kaplan's writing style and the many one-liners that sum up difficult topics. This is a five-star title. One that shouldn't be missed by all concerned with the current state of American foreign policy, but even more so by those who have been sold the bill of goods that things are somehow so "different" since 9/11 that U.S. foreign policy must be aggressive and arrogant. This will make you stop - and think. |
