Irritating, one dimensional characters with no depth and a plodding storyline

The first installment in this series was reasonably interesting, the second was mediocre and this final book was incredibly disappointing and dull.
The characters were one-dimensional and irritating: Edward was incredibly domineering and controlling; Bella was annoying and whiny. There are many messages in this book that young girls should not follow, for example, the way Bella idolises Edward is unrealistic and a little unnerving. The author limited her characterisations to the usual romantic novel stereotypes: knight in shining armour and damsel in distress, which underestimates the intelligence of the average "young adult".
The storyline was slow and it seemed truncated. The end is a little sudden and many of the events the author hints at do not actually take place. The entire novel basically plays out a love triangle between Jacob, Edward and Bella. It is unnecessarily long and rather boring.
If you've read the other two, you may want to read this book anyway, but it is considerably worse than either and does not give the trilogy a satisfactory ending. |
