| OK, I love Apple and I think it's great that Woz figured this stuff out, but come on. I've never read a book of someone working so hard to appear humble but being so full of himself. Count how many times that he says things like "all my (fill in the blank, teacher, parents..) told me that I was brilliant but I was just a normal kid". Ok by the 5th time he tells us, I think we get it. You were smart. And there are huge gaps in his life timeline, like 10 years or something. What was he doing? And I'm sorry, but I don't consider him a cultural icon (this is the sub title of book), nor does the book talk about why he thinks he's an icon. Was he a very smart guy who helped advance personal computing? Absolutely. But that was 30 years ago. If he was a bit more humble on telling his story, and was a bit more introspective it could have been a good read. Oh yeah, it's also written at a third grade reading level. Maybe that was the target market for this book. Sorry Woz, I love you man, but this book does the oposite of what I think you were trying to accomplish with it. |
