| Purchased this book at a premium when it first came out. Written in a conversational style with main chapter and subtopics in which he gives insights followed by a short summary. It at times reads like a blog. I was hoping for something insightful about business and getting that big break like books on Bill Gate, Donald Trump, Steve Jobs, Jim Cramer just to name a few. I was surprise that little of the book related to business and what was given was given by countless books before Mr. Simmons book. Creating a vision, being true to yourself , creating the right mind set, stop procrastating and doing it today, never quit and having the right people around you are all common "laws" successful people have applied. What I wanted to know was what did he do to make it? How did he know what was going to be hot before it was hot? How did he make his contacts and get that niche? Product placement and plugs for every tv show, artist, cause, label, books, business, has been placed throughout the book. Most of his writings covered vegetarian diet, PETA and KFC, yoga and Karma and doing community service. Preachy. Social activism. Political views in the last chapter. Working for companies for "free" in hopes of getting your foot in the door and become dependent on you. I got all that from my employer's philosophy, military service and other books like "Unlimited Power" A. Robbins.(NBA Cares) I enjoyed the book but it wasn't what I was after. I also noticed many times that when Mr Simmoms gives a statement he would follow it up with a disclaimer Ex: I put my money in AAA convertible bonds which are pretty safe. I don't mean or encourage you to run out and buy bonds.... Also, be aware he does us profanity throughout the book. From what I gather selling fake drug for money isn't the way to start a business. Not a lot but enough that I wouldn't recommend it casually to minors unless they are mature. |
