I picked this book up at Borders thinking that it was going
to be an amazing read. I was very wrong.
First off, the characters in this novel Suck.
Yes, Suck, with a capital S.
The development is so bad that I almost
stopped reading half way through it. I didn't, though,
because I thought that, like in some cases, it might
get better near the end.
I was wrong again.
Also, I find it very interesting [spoiler]
that the mother has to go into rehab... but
the main character [Carmen] does not.
The author completely fails to have
a voice in this novel. A flow of right and wrong. Direction.
That throwing up your food and picking on people
that are heavier than you [even though you, yourself,
are unhappy with how you look] is illogical.
Whatever.
Ms. Bell's book has a nice cover and some interesting
thoughts on this eating disorder but it is hardly worth
spending money on this book for.
Go rent it in your local library.
I really, dearly hope that if Julia chooses to
continue to be an author as her profession,
she will learn from this first
total disaster and come to write something that
is worth taking the time to read. |
