| This is my first NAXOS classic fiction selection, and I am very pleased to find it is an excellent collection with great sound at a fair price. The reading, just under two and a half hours, includes the stories: AN ACCOUNT OF SOME STRANGE DISTURBANCES IN AUNGIER STREET by Sheridan le Fanu, THAT DAMNED THING and THE MOONLIT ROAD by Ambrose Bierce, THE UPPER BERTH by F. Marion Crawford, & TO LET by B.M. Croker. Jonathan Keeble, Clare Anderson, Garrick Hagon, and Kate Harper provide pitch-perfect narrations. Atmospheric music from Rimsky-Korsakov, Babadjanian, and Norby drifts about the tales, drawing one further into each story, deepening the gloom. Includes brief liner notes. THE MOONLIT ROAD collection is certain to become a melancholy favorite, as its eponymous story has been for so many years. I really look forward to trying more NAXOS audiobooks. |
