♥♥♥♥♥ Insightful examination of an elite assassin
Barry Eisler's outstanding thriller "Rain Storm" can be defined by the abundance of acknowledgements at the end of his novel. Eisler left no stone overturned in the creation of all the little psychological and technical nuances in the complex world of moralistic but deadly assassin John Rain. The depth of his knowledge is profound, giving one the impression that he himself spent time as a covert operative.

The Japanese-American Rain had been living in self imposed exile in Brazil, at least temporary lying low and out of the killing business. He was seduced by a CIA contact with a $200,000 bounty on a dangerous half-French half-Algerian arms dealer known as Belghazi. Belghazi was running his operation in the Far East specifically in Macao where he enjoyed indulging his inveterate gambling habit.

Rain taking his usual precautions and studying the habits of his prey with extensive surveillance, soon uncovered the presence of another assassin with the same target. Belghazi was accompanied by a tall, striking blonde whose affiliations had come into question. Rain was also hampered by the fact that he soon ascertained that another arm of the CIA wanted Belghazi alive.

With all these unexpected complications Rain soon teamed up with an ex-Marine sniper he had served time with in Afghanistan named Dox. The boisterous Dox, the complete opposite of the taciturn and measured Rain was talented in the arts of assassination but could he be trusted.

Eisler leads Rain through a maze of exotic locations while he uncovers the information that will enable him to complete his assignment. Eisler's writing style allows use to immerse ourselves into both the body and soul of his protagonist for a very fulfilling reading experience.
