In the world of werecats, prides are marked off in large areas. Your either a member of pride who follows a leader and are born to it, or your a stray. Strays have to live in no-mans land and usually made either by an attack or a stray cut. But if you are Pride and are found to make a Stray, well, you just signed your death sentence, my friend. The three big no-nos are you don't make strays, you don't let the humans know anything, and you don't let the humans see you change. Basically Faythe hasn't been too lucky following the rules. What she does have on her side is the fact that there are very few females born into the pride and since there are no known female strays, the females are prized beyond measure. In the first book, they were being kidnapped, in this one Faythe has been getting strange phone calls from her old human ex-boyfriend. Then there are the dead strays that are showing up and the missing strippers. Somehow all these things are linked up and it is up to her and her pride to figure it out.
Great book with a great story line. It is written in first person. Faythe is telling the story. She's not the most likable character since she is very self-centered, but she obviously doesn't want to hurt anyone, she just can't seem to see past her own needs. Normally, this would annoy me to no end, but considering the fact that she was brought up with basically all these male cats surrounding her, pampering her, protecting her, it would not be realistic for her to grow up to be anything but the self-centered princess. What's more, now that she is older and her mistakes are beginning to effect those around her, her family and friends are not so forgiving. She is definitely learning the hard way. |
