Take this book for what it is...

| This book was based on a New York Times article, which I thought was great and I agree that the book was certainly stretched out to conform to a typical book length and some parts seemed redundant as a result, but the content matter is certainly provocative. I can see how this book elicits strong reactions from readers, but I think that this phenomenon is important to examine. While at first I admit I read the article on which the book was based and thought I could magically train my partner to behave the way I wanted, this book helped me to examine my own behavior and to recognize that the person who really needs to change is usually the overly controlling one who is incapable of accepting the person she chose to be with for who he or she is (in this instance, me). It is true that this book seems a bit cutesy at times, but it certainly was fodder for much discussion in my household and for that reason alone I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the topic. |
