Loved it until ending......

| I was hooked on this book, so drawn into many of the characters. I thought it was a great book until the ending and not because I was looking for a happily ever after. I had an idea how it would end and I knew it would heartbreaking and sad just not in the way that it went. I was really rooting for Anna and even though the outcome would have been so sad if it were Kate who died, I was hoping Anna would finally get to have the life she so deserved after living her life solely helping her sister. I just don't really get the point of the book since Anna wound up saving her sister in the end anyway. I also had a hard time identifying with Sara in the book. I can not relate to how awful it must have been for her but I did not find anything redeeming about her as a mother and I often questioned did she love Jesse even at all? Anytime the book showed her love towards Anna, it just seems so forced and only because she wanted Anna to drop her lawsuit. I though Brian was a great character though and my heart went out Jesse who was ignored his whole life. I guess I just felt really cheated by the ending. I was happy that Kate got to live on and be healthy of course because don't get me wrong, it was breaking my heart that she was dying, but it made me so sad that Anna could not do the same. I just felt like the point of the book was Anna fighting hard to live her own life, only to die at the very end so sudden? I guess that is how life can often go, I just hoped this book would have given Anna a better ending. I really cried for Anna in the end. Very sad ending. Having said all this, I'm still glad I read it. |
