♥♥♥♥♥ slaughterhouse is a powerful must read!
"This is quite an eye-opener. If you thought you knew the meat you were eating because you read Fast Food Nation, think again.
The author, an animal abuse undercover agent, finds herself deep in the corrupt politics, and henious practices of todays slaughterhouse and the criminal abuse to our fellow creatures, both the employees and and animals.
If hell existed on earth, it is in our high-speed slaughterhouses.
Not only are factory farms an open arena of blatant abuse and foul treatment to the animals by employees there who kick and beat them for amusement, but they are rewarded for a lifetime of pain and suffering by the slaughterhouse, where the conditions are so bad (cockroaches, mold, employees urinating on the floor at their stations....where meat drops and is picked up to be put back on the line..grren slimy chicken gets passed through..absceces..tumors..worms...) animals are still alive when they go down the disassembly line.
It gets worse from there. Pigs are routinely scalded alive, that's right, I said ALIVE!
Cattle are trashing, bellowing and blinking while being carved and skinned.
And that's not even mentioning the horrors of transport!
Employees suffer as well. This business has a 100% turn over rate and is 80 times more dangerous than coal mining.
Gail exposes the greed and ovious disregard for american health and fair treatment to these animals. Gross corruption is evident as well.
The argument came to mind while reading this that even if your beef or pork or chicken was raised organically, did it have to go through the slaughterhouse process such as the ones described in this book?
This is a book I was glad to read.
It was entertaining and fascinating and I could not put it down. I finished it in two days.
Everyone should read this if you care about humans or animals!
You will not believe what you find out!!!
POWERFUL!"
