13 Reasons Why You Should Read This Book

1. The premise: Clay Jenson comes home to find 13 audiocassettes bearing the voice of his crush Hannah Baker, who's just committed suicide.
2. The tapes have the 13 reasons why she did what she did. Don't YOU want to know why?
3. "I hope you're ready, because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended." You can't say no to that.
4. It's a page-turner. Like Clay, you won't be able to put it down till you've heard every last one of her words.
5. Hannah lists the 13 people who have contributed to her decision to end her life, and all 13 of them have to listen, or else. How do you know you're not one of them?
6. I wasn't actually joking there. Most readers will be able to see themselves and people they know in these characters. A lot of them didn't even do anything that's so terrible.
7. Seeing yourself and/or people you know will make you reevaluate your entire life and think about the little things that somehow had a really big impact on you, and how things you've done might have affected others more than you realize.
8. Okay, since I have 13, I'm going to say just one negative thing, which is that the storyline about the drunk driver didn't seem to have any connection to the rest of the book. But that's the only negative. Really.
9. It's a rare book that shows the power of rumors and words so well.
10. Actually, you shouldn't just read this book; you should buy it too, because you're going to want to read it again.
