Funny & confusing, but due to its length, a great introduction to Pynchon. Even though you find it hard to know what's going on, you don't have to wade through hundreds of pages for the finish.
The comparison with Ulysses is not, in my opinion, very apt. While Pynchon had obviously read it, he didn't try to write Ulysses Lite.
