I must say that this book is a MAJOR disappointment. I've read every other book that Feist has written and this is by far the worst. First the murder doesn't happen until near the end of the book. Second, the majority of the novel deals with the weather conditions of LaMut when the blizzard hit. I know it was probably cold but do we really need endless... »

Joel Rosenberg really blew it by developing the changes in the alternative fantasy world far too quickly.
The great fun and interest of the original three books was the interplay between characters with contemporary/technology and the alternative world people.

Rosenberg's books are so good I wonder why they don't have a wider audience? The worlds he creates are consistent and believable. His characters have depth. Plots in his books are always interesting, endings are satisfactory without being tied up too neatly. I have never ever regretted the time and money spent on his books.
