I first read this book about 10 years ago, when I found the original hardcover in my parents' shelves. It has become one of the (few) books that I read repeatedly, once every couple of years. It's a really well-written, grown-up fairy tale. I am glad to see that it is still in print.

i read all the books of Mary Brown. unfortunately the only book i liked was this one. the other books had too many parts about men and women... this book was perfect. it showed feeling and helps everyone feel how Prettiance feels. the book dose seem to end without and ending but i like it. it is my favorite book.
