♥♥♥♥♥ The invention of the mind occludes the Invention of Morel
I became acquainted with this book through the American television program, LOST. It was read by one of the characters, Sawyer, in a scene during an early episode of Season 4. Knowing that the writers and producers of the show often use literature and literary references to provide clues and insight into the programs plot and subplots, I ordered the book from Amazon.com.

Clearly, there are themes in this book that are similar to LOST. The writers on the program must have been familiar with this work when they began writing their scripts: a fugitive on a deserted island, mysterious buildings that seem out of place, the appearance and disappearance of strangers who seem disinterested in his presence.

The book is an easy read, and quite enjoyable. I found myself imagining many different conclusions to the mysteries of the island, none of which were accurate in the end. The author gave my mind enough material to invent my own resolution, but each chapter forced me to revise my resolution and continually reinvent my invention. By the time Morel reveals the truth behind the shroud, I was so bewildered that the improbable conclusion actually seemed quite credible-at least compared to the rabbit hole my mind had traveled down.

This is a marvelous book and a perfect way to spend a rainy weekend.
